The Role: Grand Rounds is seeking an experienced commercial counsel to expand its legal team. The ideal candidate will strengthen Grand Rounds by expanding our ability to close commercial contracts through a team-based approach, and by contributing to related legal topics. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with healthcare, enterprise benefits and/or SaaS contracting, with a focus on drafting and negotiating complex sales agreements and transactions. Experience in data privacy, ERISA, HIPAA, or similar fields is a plus. Additional duties may include RFP/proposal review, document management, and related topics. The role will report to the General Counsel.
In Your First 30 Days:
Onboard with the Grand Rounds team in San Francisco, and engage in internal learning
Engage with other legal team members as well as key stakeholders across the organization
Familiarize yourself with our contracts, our customers, and our contracting processes
Familiarize yourself with our product and servicesFamiliarize yourself with major regulatory regimes that affect contracting and service delivery
Learn-by-doing by working in partnership with current in-house commercial counsel on in-flight agreements
In Your First 60 Days
Begin to take full responsibility for projects identified above by leading designated commercial contracting projects and serving as team support on others
Identify opportunities for legal process improvement, as well as impacts on business strategy
Fully “own” relevant functional areas
Transition into leading relevant outside counsel
In Your First 90 Days:
Be seen as the go-to resource by management and other organization members regarding relevant areas of legal and business strategy.
See bottom-line impact of improvements.
Run selected commercial contracting processes, which may include large enterprise, mid-market, labor/public, and other buyers, starting from RFP through receipt of payment and potential later contract expansion.
Serve as team support on additional deals being run by other members of internal commercial team.
Interface regularly with sales, account management, finance, compliance, information security and other groups to ensure prompt and accurate completion of commercial processes.
Work as a team to support other areas of the business, including other counsel.
Manage outside counsel relationships as appropriate.
Juris doctorate required.
In good standing with state bar / eligible to practice as in-house counsel.5+ years relevant experience, preferably in high-growth environments or through relevant outside counsel experience.
Experience combining legal judgment with high business aptitude in support of a complex mission.
