Description:
We are seeking an experienced and energetic Commercial Real Estate Counsel. This position will report to the General Counsel and will provide day-to-day legal support to our cross-functional business units, with a particular focus on managing our real estate portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:
  • The position requires a highly skilled attorney who will be responsible for assisting on various legal matters, including but not limited to:
  • Review, revise, and negotiate commercial real estate purchase agreements, leases, and ancillary real estate transactional documents and agreements
  • Lead due diligence in real estate deals, including maintaining and preparing checklists, critical deadline reports, reviewing easements, restrictions, environmental reports, zoning matters, and other critical due diligence matters
  • Negotiate directly with opposing parties to resolve existing, ongoing, or anticipated issues
  • Identify opportunities for internal process improvements and implement them
  • Provide day-to-day counseling and guidance to internal business teams on complex real estate issues
  • Prepare, initiate, advocate and efficiently present legal points and recommendations to business partners to represent them as legal counsel
  • Effectively manage real estate legal budget, outside counsel and general litigation, including to ensure billing guidelines are followed
  • Assist the legal team on a wide range of matters on an as-needed basis, including non-real estate related agreements, transactions and litigation

Qualifications:
  • J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
  • Admission in good standing to a State bar (preferably North Carolina)
  • 3-5 years of applicable commercial real estate experience. Law firm experience required; additional in-house experience preferred
  • Substantial and direct experience negotiating commercial real estate acquisitions, dispositions, and/or leasing with opposing parties
  • Ability to be flexible and quickly adapt to changing direction, manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to direct and manage a team and counsel them through a variety of legal issues
  • Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to work independently to assess and resolve complex legal issues
  • Ability to synthesize complex legal concepts and explain them simply and concisely to various levels of management
  • A strong interest in working with internal business partners and desire to expand your practice as you learn and grow in the role
  • Extremely professional demeanor, demonstrates the highest level of personal integrity, tactfulness, and adherence to ethical standards
  • Strong business and financial acumen
