The Long Beach City Attorney seeks to employ a full-time staff attorney with strong transactional skills to work in the Departmental Counsel division. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in varied public law work including public works contracting, prevailing wage issues, purchase orders, contracts, leasing, and public health issues is preferred. The candidate must be comfortable and confident appearing before local boards and commissions in a variety of administrative settings. Responsibilities include providing advice to City departments, boards and commissions; preparing legal opinions, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, leases, and representing the City in both civil and administrative proceedings.
Examples Of Duties
Provide legal research, advice and draft a variety of municipal contracts including public works contracts, leases, permits, purchase and sale documents and grant documents.
Provide City departments with legal advice and opinions regarding State and Federal prevailing wage issues.
Assist City departments in administrative proceedings and hearings related to sustainability and historic preservation.
Draft a variety of municipal ordinances and resolutions.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Successful Candidates Will Demonstrate:
Current and detailed knowledge of Municipal Law including administrative and civil proceedings with an emphasis in public works contracting.
Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and ensure timely completion.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or instruction.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Windows 10.
Ability to interact professionally with all levels of personnel.
Excellent attendance, professional appearance and demeanor.
Requirements To File
Graduation from an accredited law school.
A member of the California State Bar in good standing with no prior history of discipline.
Three (3) years' legal experience working as an attorney.
A valid California Class C driver's license.
