Citi’s Legal department is a global organization of over 1500 professionals covering Citi's global businesses and providing service to clients and customers in over 100 countries. The Global Legal Solutions (GLS) team reports to the Global COO of the Legal department with a mission to “deliver innovative solutions and services for Citi’s Global Legal department”. The GLS team is comprised of approximately 70 professionals, based across Tampa, Mumbai, Belfast, Mexico City, London, Hong Kong, and New York, and provides a range of operational and strategic solutions to the Global Legal organization including:
  • Outside counsel management: Citi Legal Network governance and performance management, outside counsel value and spend optimization
  • Business management: Internal and External Legal spend management, settlements, reserves and accruals, regulatory and risk support
  • Operations and Technology: Technology delivery, systems support, third & fourth party management, Legal supplier invoice and payment support, data governance and optimization
  • Risks & Controls: Audit, data privacy and outsourcing, legal holds governance, records management

This role can be based in Tampa, FL or Belfast, UK

The Head of Legal Innovation is a newly created global, senior leadership role that will report into the Head of GLS and be responsible for driving continuous innovation for the Global Legal department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build a lean team to partner with the Head of GLS, the Legal Management Committee (LMC) and their designated transformation leads to:
    • Mobilize and facilitate their respective Tech Transformation programs
    • Enable the identification of use cases to radically simplify Legal contracts and data, streamline and automate its processes, and leverage mature and emerging technologies
    • Once use cases are identified, define and rationalize the business case for each
  • Partner with the Global Functions Technology Services (GFTS) and GLS Tech Delivery teams to
    • Evaluate current and emerging technology trends and products
    • Serve as a clearing house to identify optimal technology solutions for each use case that are scalable across other similar use cases and accretive to the overall Legal and Citi architecture and strategy
    • Prioritize use cases gathered by each LMC Tech Transformation program in a centralized and objective manner to ensure horizontal compatibility, delivery consistency and optimized ROI
  • Own the development and delivery of an aspirational but actionable technology innovation plan
    • Lead the design, requirements and implementation planning for each prioritized use case
    • Provide ongoing knowledge transfer and support to the GLS Tech Delivery team to ensure successful delivery of the use cases

  • JD and/or MBA desirable, BA or equivalent required
  • Minimum 8-10 years in a senior management role at a global management consulting firm, law firm or corporate legal department
  • Excellent knowledge of the current state of the legal industry, legal technologies and trends
  • Knowledgeable about legal processes, delivery and common ‘lawyering’ tasks
  • Good general knowledge of common banking and financial services products and offerings from consumer banking to commercial and investment banking
  • Strong and positive executive-level business communications skills
  • Skilled at finding common ground, gaining collective support and planning a shared way forward when introducing change initiatives and transformation recommendations
  • Comfortable acting as productive challenger to senior stakeholders and independently making decisions using a quantifiable business case approach
  • Experience managing and driving complex projects forward within a highly matrixed environment involving a wide variety of stakeholders and significant indirect dependencies
  • Demonstrated experience owning and successfully implementing $MM value strategic projects on a global scale with documented deliverables and outcomes
  • Experience with managing global teams virtually and in-person
  • Must be a detail-oriented, organized and energetic leader and team player with a positive demeanor; able to work independently with limited instruction; excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to multi-task and prioritize a demanding workload; and comfortable in a high-pressure working environment
