Position Duties: Commercial Lending Attorney responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice and support as part of legal team supporting commercial lending activities of the Commercial line of business and Private Wealth Management line of business of SunTrust Bank. The successful candidate will serve as an internal legal partner to these two robust lines of business as well as other non-client facing partners in the commercial lending process including credit, closers, risk and compliance. This position is based in SunTrust’s Atlanta headquarters.
Position duties will include:
Providing legal support for a wide variety of commercial lending transactions (e.g. bilateral loans secured by real property and/or personal property as well as club deals and syndicated credit facilities).
Research and advice regarding regulatory issues impacting lending activities of lines of business.
Keeping the lines of business apprised of relevant legal and regulatory developments.
Providing guidance and acting as a liaison for outside legal counsel closing loan transactions.
Updating proprietary set of loan and collateral form documents for use on internally closed loans and loans closed by outside counsel.
Assisting in formulation of bank policy as to various legal, risk, compliance and credit issues.
Experience and skills for the role include the following:
Position is being posted as a multi-level position GR 50 or GR 51. Selected candidate will be placed in grade level based on his/her experience.
J.D. from an accredited law school, excellent academic credentials and current member in good standing with Georgia or other state bar.
A minimum of 5 years’ major law firm or sophisticated in-house experience in commercial lending with an emphasis on drafting and negotiating complex loan and collateral documents.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with particular emphasis on client communication and interaction.
Well-organized self-starter able to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously as well the associated pressure of handling multiple competing deadlines.
Able to work independently, but in a team environment.
Strong analytical skills and ability to balance business needs with legal risks.
Strong negotiation skills.
Enthusiastic self-starter and team player with One Team approach and Client First attitude.
Additional Preferred Skills:
Experience in one or more of the following areas considered helpful: tax-exempt, not-for-profit and/or municipal financing, auto-dealer financing, healthcare financing; financing for high net-worth clients; supply chain finance.
Experience working in a technology-driven environment preferably with a large commercial lending institution.
