Job Summary The In-House Counsel - Real Estate and Construction position provides legal advice and support to Lidl US’ Real Estate and Construction teams and other related business units within Lidl US. This position ensures that applicable business units are provided accurate and timely legal advice, and equipped with relevant policies, procedures, and written agreements. This role works to minimize the Company’s legal exposure in transactions and operations, ensure its compliance with US laws and regulations, and ensure Lidl US’ adherence to applicable Lidl international requirements.
Essential Functions
Provide legal support to the Company’s Real Estate, Construction and related departments, including the relevant company policies and procedures that pertain to the specific business units
Provide transactional/contractual support to the applicable business units, including conducting appropriate legal research, drafting contracts and related legal documents
Support the business in negotiations for a broad spectrum of real estate and construction matters
Identify and analyze complex legal issues
Draft and negotiate a variety of agreements including, without limitation, commercial real estate acquisition, disposal agreements, leases, other commercial real estate transactional agreements and construction agreements
Provide advice and support to specific business units (including executive leadership and regional management) about legal exposure and risks, other department-wide or Company-wide consequences and recommended course for specific business area
Monitor state and federal legislation and government agency enforcement priorities and advise of developments that may or will affect the business units
Supervise and manage outside counsel and review their invoices for specific business units
Provide legal policies and procedures for business units that comply with US laws and regulations and Lidl international requirements
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Strong contract drafting, research, analytical, and negotiation skills, with prior experience in commercial real estate and construction transactions
Ability to research legal issues and provide clear, concise written and oral advice
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure and to quickly adapt to changing circumstances

Strong technical and presentation skills
Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience
Juris Doctor (JD) Degree from an accredited US law school
1 - 4 years of experience in related field
Member in Good Standing of at least 1 state bar required (Virginia preferred); must be able to present certificate of Good Standing from State Bar
Preferred Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience
Experience in general corporate law, real estate, construction, and commercial transactions
2 - 4 years of experience at a mid to large law firm in specific area that corresponds to business unit
Additional in-house experience with general knowledge of business practices at large national or international company
