Overview
The Legal Fellow will work in the Office of the General Counsel of Lurie Children’s and provide legal support to all levels and groups in order to advance Lurie Children’s mission, minimize organizational liability, and ensure compliance with laws and guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Provides general support to General Counsel, Associate and Assistant General Counsel on a range of legal and regulatory matters.
  • Performs legal research and prepares written guidance in a wide variety of substantive areas of law impacting hospitals and health care, such as general health care law, medical staff matters, patient consent and treatment, intellectual property, hospital reimbursement, employment, research and business law.
  • Drafts and/or edits legal documents for attorney review, such as legal memos, contracts, letters, policies and procedures, and administrative agency requests for information.
  • Attends meetings and legal proceedings with in-house and outside counsel and operational leaders where legal support is required, including matters related to internal programs and services, actual or potential litigation and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of legal developments and what effect the laws will have on the Medical Center entities, and is responsible for dissemination of and education on new and revised statutes, regulations and other compliance issues.
  • Responds to requests for legal advice from persons throughout the hospital on a variety of issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education:
  • Juris Doctorate required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois, or has taken or is schedueld to take the Illinois Bar Exam
Skills/Knowledge
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing complex legal issues in a clear and understandable manner
  • A practical hands-on approach to resolving issues
  • Proficient research, writing, oral communication, and word processing/computer skills
  • Ability to think strategically while also being detail-oriented
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, speaking and writing skills
  • Self-motivating, curious, and independent
  • Prompt, and develops work product that is accurate, comprehensive and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work under pressure with equanimity and to work cooperatively with numerous, varied constituencies
  • Ability to multitask effectively
