The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (“MassCEC”) is seeking to hire a law student for its Paralegal and Special Projects Fellowship (the “Fellow”). This is a paid or for credit position for the spring 2019 semester or for a combination of the spring and summer of 2019. The Fellow will be required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week from Monday-Thursday at a schedule mutually agreed upon by the Fellow and MassCEC. The Fellow will assist both the legal division and the operations division with legal and strategic operations projects.
Job Duties The Fellow will report directly to both the Senior Associate General Counsel and Director of Strategic Initiatives, and will have the opportunity to work with the Chief Operating Officer, General Counsel, and other members of the MassCEC senior team. The Fellow will gain an introduction to legal administration, the role and duties of in-house counsel work, and the organization’s operations and strategic business initiatives.
The Fellow will:
Provide paralegal assistance on corporate legal work
Assist with state law compliance
Perform legal research on a variety of topics
Assist with the development and presentation of staff trainings
Assist in the development of staff toolkits, policies, and processes
Assist in the preparation for board and committee meetings
Observe and participate in internal meetings with program staff
Assist in developing MassCEC’s strategic plan
Work across the organizational matrix to help streamline data collection and reporting
Assist with development of MassCEC’s annual report
Assist in contract negotiation and execution of MassCEC sponsorships
Assist with other special projects as requested by the corporate team
Perform administrative work, as necessary, including managing the legal filing system
Position Qualifications Education:
Currently an enrolled law student.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Self-starter who enjoys working in a team environment
Outstanding research and writing skills
Effective communications skills
Strong attention to detail
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel
Interest and experience in transactional law
Interest and experience in clean energy preferred
