Freedom House Detroit is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves as a temporary home for indigent survivors of persecution from around the world who are seeking US asylum. Starting with legal aid and shelter, Freedom House Detroit delivers a continuum of free services to indigent asylum seekers that guides them through the asylum process and helps them heal from the traumas of persecution. The Freedom House Detroit legal department provides representation primarily for US asylum claims and related matters, such as family petitions, green card applications and naturalization.
Freedom House Detroit is seeking a summer legal intern to assist the legal department with preparing US asylum applications for its clients. Legal interns will have the opportunity to work closely with clients to develop and document appropriate fact patterns, prepare asylum applications, draft briefs, assist with representation at asylum hearings, and prepare immigration forms. This position requires a high level of contact with clients, excellent research and writing skills, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced work environment.
