Description:
Essential Functions:
  • Full-time, paid internship for the duration of 6-8 weeks.
  • Work hands-on with projects in the Legal department, getting exposure to LexisNexis, State/Federal regulations and performing contract review.
  • Support the Compliance Department by reviewing compliance requirements for licensing and marketing materials.
  • Provide responsive, courteous and knowledgeable service to Branches and internal departments.
  • Use computers to conduct research, including proprietary systems, subscriber databases and internet resources to resolve issues and verify compliance with regulations.
  • Research regulatory changes, including 50-state surveys to analyze impact company-wide.
  • Notify Management of changes in industry regulations that impact work product and ensure that corresponding modifications to policies and procedures are implemented.
  • Research and prepare responses to customer complaints.
  • Assist Manager with legal matters as needed. Review outstanding case files.
  • Research and review security incidents. Prepare report for management when security breach has been resolved.

Qualifications:
  • College degree or equivalent required; a degree or a combination of college courses/technical training related to Business, Finance, Legal, etc. is preferred. Must be in law school and/or a recent law school graduate.
  • Knowledge of, and prior work experience in overall consumer mortgage lending process, industry-related compliance and regulatory requirements related to SAFE, HMDA, ECOA, TILA, RESPA, FCRA, etc. in Compliance-related roles; e.g., prior internal or external work experience includes working in a “lead”/internal subject matter capacity in a mortgage company.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong detail orientation and highly organized.
  • Apply sound judgment and thinks critically about downstream impact of changes on processes and systems.
  • Work independently in a fast-paced environment to complete work.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines; strong sense of urgency and responsiveness.
  • Ability to be patient and train less experienced team members, respond to questions, build capability.
  • Use PDF/Adobe programs and Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Familiarity with different forms of social media and related applications and websites including how they are accessed and used, along with print, radio and television.
