The City Attorney's Office is seeking either two part-time law clerks or one full-time law clerk for seasonal employment during the Summer of 2019. The person in this position will be under the direction and supervision of a licensed attorney.
The Office's normal hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Part-time law clerks will work +/- 20 hours/week
Full-time law clerk will work approximately 35-40 hours/week
Start Date: Flexible, preferably mid to late May
Compensation: $16.00/hr OR Academic Externship Credits
Applications accepted until the position is filled, with priority consideration for applications by submitted by April 28, 2019.
Duties and responsibilities:
Conduct legal research and writing
Courtroom appearances including in-custody arraignments, out-of-custody arraignments, initial appearances, and other trial calendar matters
Negotiate plea offers with opposing counsel and self-represented litigants
Work with victim and witness liaisons
Assist with trial preparations
Perform other duties as assigned
Completion of at least one year at an ABA accredited law school
Current Certified Student Attorney or ability to become certified promptly upon hire
Special Requirement Must be federal work study eligible or must use summer clerk position to earn academic externship credits
Familiarity with Microsoft Office
Familiarity with Westlaw
